Julian Dinino Obituary, Death: It is with profound sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Julian Dinino, a vibrant and beloved young man of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, who tragically departed on June 8, 2025, at the age of 24. Julian’s sudden loss has left an unfillable void among his family, friends, and the broader community he so dearly loved and enriched. Born on May 12, 2001, Julian was the only child of proud parents Antonio “Tony” Dinino and Maria (Lopez) Dinino. He grew up in the friendly neighborhoods of Squirrel Hill, where neighbors knew him as a kind-hearted, curious, and joyful child. His early years were filled with soccer matches at Frick Park, laughter echoing across backyards, and countless afternoons spent with his childhood friends.
Julian attended Pittsburgh Arsenal PreK–5 before continuing at Taylor Allderdice High School, where he distinguished himself both academically and as an active member of the school community. He was an enthusiastic student with a passion for English literature and writing. Classmates remember him as someone with a ready smile, an easy laugh, and an uncanny talent for capturing humor in everyday moments.
Following high school, Julian went on to study journalism and communications at Duquesne University, where he quickly became known for his dedication, warmth, and tenacity. As a campus correspondent for the Duquesne Duke newspaper, he demonstrated a gift for storytelling and a deep empathy for others’ experiences. Students and professors alike praised him for his thought-provoking articles, many of which explored social justice and community resilience.
Outside of academics, Julian was deeply committed to service. He volunteered with the local nonprofit Pittsburgh Youth Outreach, mentoring younger students from underprivileged backgrounds. Week after week, he helped them with homework, shared his love of reading, and inspired them to dream big. He also lent his voice to The World Is Pittsburgh, a podcast amplifying global perspectives on local life—a testament to Julian’s belief that every story matters.
Julian was an avid soccer player and a devout Pittsburgh sports fan. He cheered passionately for the Pirates, the Penguins, and the Steelers, attending games with his father since childhood. He was also a friend and guide to many in his neighborhood, always bringing people together—whether through impromptu cookouts, weekend hikes, or late-night coffee and poetry discussions.
Tragically, on the evening of June 8, Julian and a friend were involved in a pedestrian accident near the Brighton Heights Bridge. He was taken to Allegheny General Hospital, where medical staff fought valiantly to save him. Despite all efforts, Julian passed away in the early hours of June 9. An investigation into the collision is underway, and the community holds space for both grief and justice.
Julian is survived by his parents Tony and Maria, his grandparents Eduardo and Rosa Lopez, many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and a tight-knit circle of friends who referred to him as their “pillar of kindness.” His favorite golden retriever, Cooper, waits at home, unaware of Julian’s absence but a constant reminder of his warmth and joy. A memorial service celebrating Julian’s life and legacy will be held on June 15, 2025, at Calvary Cathedral in Squirrel Hill, beginning at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception at the Uptown Community Golf Course Pavilion.
